Unfortunately on Friday 30th January 2009 @ 8.13pm in the roundabout at
Blackhill / Beresfield at the end of the F3 freeway a red "P" plater
decided to go straight ahead from the right lane (he is supposed to go
Right Only, 3rd exit as a minimum) & I was turning right, 3rd exit
from the left lane (which is allowed at this roundabout) when he
smashed my right side directly. I was in a lean angle to the right
which actually softened the impact than if I was at 90 degrees. It was
approximated that the driver was doing some 40km/h at impact. I am
lucky to be alive let alone very lucky to be in one piece.
I always wear all the safety riding gear & had no gravel rash etc.
I sustained a traumatic shoulder dislocation , bruising & soreness to hip,
elbow, knee. Lower right leg had a couple of small punctures to calf
& other bruising etc. Only thing broken is a bone in my foot.
Adding to existing health issues I do hope to recover fully in time,
but specialists not so sure about my shoulder. It has been just over 2
weeks & I am very sore & stiff. The pain killers work a
treat in easing the pain a lot. I am hobbling worse than before &
trying to remain positive. I know it will be a slow recovery, with
positive thoughts & much help from my wife Connie & our older
teenage children who are very patient with me & are certainly
proving that the good up bringing is paying off.
UPDATE:
Been 9 months now & found that I have 3 rotor cuff tears to my
shoulder on top of a large 14mm channel grooved out of the top of my
shoulder from the disclocation. Had 2 lots of steroid injections to the
shoulder & they have just been some short turn relief. Considering
surgury but not keen. I can raise the shoulder to 50% with a
considerable amount of pain. Other area damaged have settled in the
last month but do have there moments to remind you that there still
injured. 1 steroid injection to the hip as have something going on in
there with bursa sacs forming large calcinations due to the impact.
Below are some pictures of the damage to my Harley Davidson
StreetGlide. It has certainly faired very well & I have been
advised that the motorcycle being of full weight minimised damage to both me & the bike.
